Movie Review: CAPTIVE by Brilliante Ma Mendoza

"CAPTIVE: Even Choice Is Not An Option" is a film by 2009 Cannes Film Festival Best Director winner, Brillante Ma Mendoza. The film is adapted from the Dos Palmas kidnapping incident of two US missionaries by the Abu Sayyaf in 2001. The movie has almost 200 members including the 40 actors/actresses like Isabelle Huppert the most awarded actress in France, Ronnie Lazaro, Angel Aquino, Sid Lucero, Raymond Bagatsing, Rustica Carpio, Maria Isabel Lopez, Mercedes Cabral, Kathy Mulville, and Timothy Mabalot.

On my perception the movie basically showing how you are the things you can experience and the challenges that you would encounter if held captive. The movie clearly showed possible scenario and behavior of individuals involve and you can felt also captive as you are watching the it. The casts of great Philippine actors added by a French actress whose performance is measurable. Get ready also for the some details of the ordeal like the actual childbirth and snake eating a chicken and the Sarimanok, scenes that very meaningful yet showed in a situation that you can never imagine.

Watch CAPTIVE in theaters starting September 5 and you would become enlightened through the process as I do. To know more about the film CAPTIVE ,"Like" on Facebook. To request for a film viewing for schools , just email or visit
